This is a lsit of books and audio works (I mainly listen to audiobooks so it's about the same) I've "read", maybe some thoughts.

2026

  • The Infinite Extent by Dennis E. Taylor:
  • Blame! by Tsutomu Nihei: An iconic story again set in a a decaying endless megacity, fascinated by how a post collapse society rebuilds itself in the shell of its predecessor, how context and understanding can be lost and new meaning found. Incredible art style if a little hard to follow at times.
  • Girls last tour by Tsukumizu: A story about precarity and hope in the industrial decay of a layer megacity, finding meaning and purpose at the end of civilisation. A really interesting look into how culture and technology alongside the understanding of it can fall away over time.
  • Engines of Reason by Adrian Tchaikovsky (Sequel to Elder Race): A look into how the cultural stories we tell about ourselves frame identity and purpose in life, great followup to the previous book with great framing for more.
  • Witch Hat Atelier by Kamome Shirahama: What if magic was a programming language, also a lovely story about the joys of artistic creation, perseverance and friendship.
  • Avatar: The Shadow of Kyoshi: Followup to previous book, little more repetative plot but an interesting look into fire nation culture.
  • Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Rise of Kyoshi by F. C. Yee: A fun story that expands the universe of the ATLA series.
  • Elder Race by Adrian Tchaikovsky: A dual perspective story about how different cultural viewpoints and contexts can reframe the same situation, are they a wizard or a scientist?
  • Everything is Tuberculosis by John Greene: The world really is an interconnected web of issues but we really should be doing better at solving the real problems like healthcare inequality.
  • Saturation point by Adrian Tchaikovsky.
  • Children of strife by Adrian Tchaikovsky: What if AI tech bros vibe coded an entire planatery eco-system/super-computer, out of desperation uploaded their minds into it to stay alive, and became a horrific pantheon of monsters.
  • Firewalkers by Adrian Tchaikovsky: Another collapsing world, the rich pulling the ladder to the stars up behind the desperate firewalkers just making ends meet and the cultural melting pot of a world of climate migration.

  • Rendezvous with Rama by Arthur C. Clarke.
  • Heavens River by Dennis E. Taylor: This one made me fall in love with the idea of living in a topopolis, particularly with the quinlan lifestyle of floating down the river with the wide walls of the world stretching to either side, this and Outer Wilds - Echoes of the Eye have really blended together in my memory.
